November, A Month to Give Thanks & Support!

Hello! First & foremost ACM would like to express our gratitude to all our American troops who served and are currently serving. We are grateful & humbled by your courage, bravery, & selfless acts of service you have done. We thank you for keeping us & our families safe. November is a month of reflection & giving thanks. At ACM we are thankful for our community & their continued support for us. Thank you for your trust and the time you have allowed us to work on your home renovations.

Speaking of support, let's talk about structural design. More specifically, framing. What is framing? Framing is the most important part of design planning. It is what keeps our walls sturdy & secure & prevents our homes from collapsing. There are different types of framing. The two common types are LVL, Laminated veneer lumber and I-Joists. LVL come in different types of wood such as poplar, pine, & fir. They are laminated under pressure and heat with a moisture resistant resin. I-Joists, an engineered wood joist. The I-Joists has two main parts which is the web and flange. these are also typically made of oriented strand board, laminated veneer lumber, or plywood.

The major difference between LVL and I-joists is that the I-Joists carries heavy loads with less lumber than a dimensional wood joists that is solid. The LVL uses multiple layers of thin wood assembled with adhesives. Tha advantage of LVL is that are made under controlled requirements, which they are made stronger, more uniformed, and stronger. They are more resistant to warping, bowing, shrinking, and twisting. Most builders use a combination of both these types for floor and roof assemblies.

A third option is ICF framing which stands for Insulated Concrete Forms. A great advantage is that they create a more energy efficient, quiet in heating building than a built with wood-frame construction. Another gold star on this ICF, they are more resistant to fire, disasters, insects like termites, offer superior insulation from hot & cold climates and mold proof. An added bonus to ICF is that will not off-gas non-toxic materials, which means no air infiltration. This is great for those allergic to dust & mildew.

Whatever you decide to use for your home renovation, keep in mind what the long-term outcome will be when investing in your home at the beginning of construction. Think about energy saving costs, such as HVAC systems and their running costs and the environmental impact it can have later down the road. ACM is here to support you in the time of your home renovation needs. We will be happy to help and answer any questions you might have about how to get your project up and running!
